FAQ

This section answers the most common questions about Fibric from compatibility and performance to workflow integration and customization.
If you're considering using Fibric in production, this guide will help you understand its capabilities, limitations, and best practices.

• Do you accept refunds?

All purchases of the Fibric Toolset are considered final and are generally non-refundable, except where a refund is required by applicable law or the applicable distribution platform's policies.

• Is there a trial version?

Trials are available to studios upon request.

• What is Fibric?

Fibric is a collection of Houdini HDAs for procedurally generating and controlling curve-based cloth.

• Which Houdini versions are supported?

Houdini Indie, Core, and FX version 20.5 or later.

• How is Fibric licensed?

We offer node-locked licenses. Studios can contact to see other licensing options.

• Are updates included?

All Fibric 1.x updates are included, (1) year maintenance. If Fibric 2.0 is released, existing customers will receive upgrade options.

• Can I use Fibric commercially?

Yes! Please tag us or contact us if you would like your work featured in our reels.

• Where can I get support?

Through our Discord channel.

https://discord.gg/XPwwKcmmNs

• Which operating systems are supported?

Windows and Linux. macOS is not currently supported.

• Does Fibric require Vellum?

No, but Fibric geometry can be deformed or simulated with Vellum.

• Does Fibric support Solaris and USD?

Yes. Fibric works in SOPs and LOPs through SOP Create and USD asset workflows.

• What input geometry does Fibric accept?

Polygon meshes with non-overlapping UVs.

• Are the HDAs open?

Most core HDAs are locked(blackbox). Utilities nodes are open and can be adapted to custom pipelines.

• Which renderers are supported?

Any renderer that supports curves as ribbons or tubes. This includes Karma, Arnold, RenderMan, Redshift, V-Ray, Octane, Cycles, and Eevee. Tubes are recommended.

• Can I export to Blender or Maya?

Yes. USD is recommended for preserving attributes, but Alembic is also an option.

• Can I export to Unreal Engine?

Technically, yes, but dense curve geometry can be too heavy for real-time use. We recommend the Fibric Texture Baker instead.

• Can I use render-time deformation outside Solaris?

Not currently. It is supported through Husk within Solaris.

• Does render-time deformation require a Houdini Engine license on the farm?

No.

• Can I use the render-time procedural on a local/external render farm without a Fibric license?

Yes, but at least the render farm will need to have access to the fibric_deform_graph.bgeo.sc graph, also, you will need to setup the enviroment variable "FIBRIC_HUSK_PROCEDURAL_GRAPHS".

• Does render-time deformation support Stickers meshes?

No. It only deforms curves and points. Geometry created with Stickers must be cached before use in shots.

• Can Fibric create embroidery?

Yes. Use Stitches, or import custom embroidery curves through Arbitrary Curves. More embroidery features are planned.
